Easy Chocolate Loaf Cake
A simple, one-bowl chocolate loaf cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting.

Cake
- 6 oz or 175g plain flour (all-purpose flour)
- 4 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda (bicarbonate of soda)
- 5 oz or 140g caster sugar (superfine sugar)
- pinch salt
- 2 tbsp golden syrup
- 2 eggs
- 5 fl oz or 145ml mild oil such as sunflower
- 5 fl oz or 145ml milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Frosting
- 8 oz or 225g cream cheese, at room temperature
- 3 oz or 85g icing sugar (powdered sugar)
- 4 oz or 110g chocolate, melted
Cake
Preheat your oven to 350F/175C and line a loaf tin with baking parchment.
Sieve the dry ingredients into a large bowl and give them a quick stir to ensure it's all well incorporated.
Add the wet ingredients and mix well.
Pour the mixture into your tin and bake for around 45 minutes or until an inserted skewer comes out clean.
Leave in the tin to cool in the tin, then remove and top with the cream cheese frosting.
