Easy Chocolate Loaf Cake

A simple, one-bowl chocolate loaf cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients
  

Cake

  • 6 oz or 175g plain flour (all-purpose flour)
  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda (bicarbonate of soda)
  • 5 oz or 140g caster sugar (superfine sugar)
  • pinch salt
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 fl oz or 145ml mild oil such as sunflower
  • 5 fl oz or 145ml milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Frosting

  • 8 oz or 225g cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 3 oz or 85g icing sugar (powdered sugar)
  • 4 oz or 110g chocolate, melted

Instructions
 

Cake

  • Preheat your oven to 350F/175C and line a loaf tin with baking parchment.
  • Sieve the dry ingredients into a large bowl and give them a quick stir to ensure it's all well incorporated.
  • Add the wet ingredients and mix well.
  • Pour the mixture into your tin and bake for around 45 minutes or until an inserted skewer comes out clean.
  • Leave in the tin to cool in the tin, then remove and top with the cream cheese frosting.

Frosting

  • Beat together the cream cheese and sugar. Then pour in the melted chocolate and mix well. Spread over the cooled cake.
