No-Bake Chocolate Squares
Yet another simple, no-bake traybake. These No-Bake Chocolate Squares are a combination of a lot of those classic traybake ingredients – dates, Rice Krisipes, cherries, coconut and chocolate. There are also walnuts in this traybake. But feel free to leave those out or to substitute a different nut if you prefer.

I kept the name ‘No-Bake Chocolate Squares’ as it stands in my retro recipe book because I want people to be able to find these recipes by the names they have been called in the past. However, I was really tempted to change this one as I don’t think it fully conveys the make-up of this traybake. The name implies a greater presence of chocolate, perhaps. And this is mostly dates and Rice Krispies.

There are so many variations on this style of traybake. And most of them seem to be no-bake too. If you’re in the mood for more like this, then I would recommend my No-Bake Date Rolls or No-Bake Chocolate Date Krispies (which would also work in naming this traybake).
The method is straightforward. Just melt the butter, dates and sugar and then stir in the remaining ingredients. Press the mixture into a lined traybake tin and cover with melted chocolate.
The resulting traybake is a little bit crunchy, a little bit chewy and a little bit sticky. Quick and easy to make and also adaptable if you want to leave out an ingredient or add something new.
